Led Zeppelin 3 released this month in 1970!

54 years ago this past week back in 1979...Led Zeppelin released their third studio album... Led Zeppelin 3! The record was one of the most highly anticipated albums of 1970 and was somewhat of a surprise to both fans of the band and music critics at the time. The record marked somewhat of an evolution in the sound of the band's music as it embraced more of an acoustic sound on some of the tracks....Most notably "Gallows Pole" and "That's The Way"....Led Zeppelin's original two records which were both released in 1969 had been ground breaking straight ahead rock albums by contrast! The songs on Led Zeppelin 3 were written for the most part by and performed entirely by the four members of the band without any help from any outside studio musicians. Release of the record was somewhat delayed too...due to the complicated nature of the album cover art of Led Zeppelin 3. However...Upon its release...The record zoomed to the top of the album charts in both The US and The UK! Led Zeppelin was officially formed in 1968. They were briefly known as The New Yardbirds after the dissolution of the line up of The original Yardbirds...Jimmy Page had been a guitarist for The Yardbirds and once they had officially disbanded...He had the legal rights to continue the band as The Yardbirds but as the new musicians were added to the band...A decision was made to change the name of the band to Led Zeppelin!
