National Horror Movie Day

National Horror Movie Day happens every October 23rd! It's close to Halloween, but let's be honest, ANY day can be "Horror Movie Day"! Now we all know the obvious horror films like: "Psycho", "Halloween", "Nightmare On Elm Street", 'Friday The 13th", "Dracula", "Frankenstein", "The Living Dead Franchise", etc.

I wanted to spotlight some horror cinema that is underrated. Some you may have seen or heard about, some perhaps not:

1. Eyes Without A Face (1960)- A surgeon becomes obsessed with finding the perfect face for his daughter after she's horribly disfigured in a car crash. To say more would be a disservice! If you love horror cinema (and don't mind the subtitles), it's essential you see this masterpiece from France! John Carpenter was rumored to say that the featureless mask used in this film was an inspiration for Michael Myers' mask in "Halloween"!

2. Messiah Of Evil (1973)- An American supernatural horror film that follows a woman who travels to a remote coastal town on the west coast to search for her missing father, but upon arrival she finds herself in a series of events that are beyond bizarre! Again, to reveal more would take away the surprise twists and turns. The film is not so much about plot or narrative but about the atmosphere and strange encounters & situations! SEE this film as I think it's another essential for horror fans!

3. City Of The Living Dead (1980) - We actually recorded a podcast about this Lucio Fulci classic! Listen by clicking here!

4. Tourist Trap (1979) - We recorded a podcast about this cult classic as well! Listen by clicking here!

5. At Midnight I'll Take Your Soul (1964) - This was a true find! 20 years ago, I accidently came across this Brazilian horror cult classic on cable and I've been a fan of "Coffin Joe" ever since! The plot is simple: An undertaker who seeks immortality by finding the right woman to have a son with! Some suggest that Coffin Joe may have been an inspiration for Freddy Krueger! We recorded a podcast about Coffin Joe as well! Click here to listen!

A few ideas if you want to see a different type of horror film or one you may have never seen or heard about before. I hope these ideas help you or the horror fan in your life!
