The City of Albany is distributing salt for residents

The City of Albany Department of General Services is distributing free salt to residents due to regional shortages. Mayor Kathy Sheehan stated that the distributions will be on a first come, first serve basis. Gov. Kathy Hochul declared a state disaster emergency in response to the salt shortages. Residents must bring their own container and proof of residency to receive salt in increments less than five gallons. Property owners are reminded to clear snow and ice from sidewalks to avoid fines.
