This is what you need to look out for

The New York State Police have issued a warning about a growing sextortion scam targeting individuals through their email. The scammers claim to have personal information, such as a photo of the victim’s residence, and demand payment in Bitcoin to avoid public embarrassment. They often try to create panic by threatening to expose compromising material and falsely claim to have installed spyware on the victim’s device.

Despite these claims, the scammers do not have access to your device or personal accounts. If you receive one of these emails, the best course of action is to block the sender, delete the message, and avoid sharing any personal information.

Victims are urged to report these incidents to the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at www.ic3.gov, or contact their local FBI office or law enforcement agency for further assistance.
